Considering Crates

Last week I wrote about how reluctant race car drivers can be to change. Sometimes promoters are no different.

Seven years ago, Georgian Mike Vaughn went out on a limb and tried something relatively new by starting a Crate Late Model series. Along with a traveling series, there’s also a weekly racing series. At the time, I was interested to see just how Vaughn’s series — now known as the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series — could aptly police its stringent engine policies.

'Never too old to learn'

People tend to resist change. That’s understandable. Often it takes a jolt of some type before even I realize that I’m stuck in my own ways.

I’ve noticed that people like comfortable. Comfortable is good. Most of the time, change disrupts comfortable, which can make people a bit uneasy. Racers are the worst.

I’ve heard a story about how even Scott Bloomquist once resisted change. Yes, the Scott Bloomquist.
